THE GHOST WIVES by Kate Wiley
4* Different, but equally good.
So, Margot's still on the trail of the guy who's buried kill buckets all over the country. And maybe at the end of the book, there are 2 breakthroughs. One down to the victim he let live, one down to his wife, the woman he knows he cannot kill. His mental state is in kill-fantasy overdrive and yet his life is about to change. Bigly. And it's scary what that might mean. But we won't know more until the next book.
The main part of the tale, and I dived in without reading the blurb, was to do with an evil 'prophet' of the church of LDS and their version of religion and what the Lord says, but also to do with plain evil, faux prophets, tradwives, the cash cow that Insta can be, and serial killer* ...*can't spoiler. The tale is horrifying in how brainwashed some of these people are, and in how manipulative the 'prophet' is. And something truly, truly terrifying happens to Margot, and tbh, I'm stunned that she didn't break down more.
Margot did what Margot does best - besting a serial killer and getting into his head. And Q, the new guy to their team, saves the day. I mean, he literally does. She's also got her brother on her mind, but he's disappeared. Alana knows what Margot suspects David of, but nothing more has happened. Until the end of the tale's cliffhanger.
The book has several storylines, several locations and several timelines, but it wasn't hard to keep up with it. I think my only frustration was starting to see the percentage-read count go up and realising a big old bombshell drop and resolution wasn't going to happen in this book. Thank goodness KW is pretty prolific. This is one of the best series out there, and I'm so glad she didn't leave Margot back in her previous series.
